On April 22, at a session of the Presidential Council for the development of physical culture and sport, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested developing a sub-programme on state support of hockey under the Federal special-purpose programme on the development of sport after 2018.
Putin reminded that Russian hockey will celebrate 70th anniversary this year, and there are 485 indoor ice rinks in Russia (more than in Finland (260) and Sweden (358).
Board chairman of Russian hockey federation Arkady Rotenberg said that the working group on preparation of the session of the Presidential Council for the development of physical culture and sport suggested establishing a sub-programme on the development of hockey in Russia in 2016-2020. He thinks it is important that young people play hockey regularly.
