On July 9, at Tatarstan Government House, speaking at a video-conference held by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov with participation of all municipalities, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the republic Marat Akhmetov said that according to meteorological data some south-eastern regions of the republic may face abnormal drought this year again.
Akhmetov acknowledged that this year the weather makes its own corrections to crop condition, although farmers have done as much as they could: sowed the crops in due time, using quality seeds and the latest technology.
Minnikhanov has given an errand to examine all the dry regions of the republic to determine the amount of damage that abnormal heat can cause. According to Akhmetov, forced reduction of livestock because of lack of fodder can be one of the main problems. Minnikhanov addressed regions with richer food supply and asked them to assist their neighbors, if necessary.
