Tatarstan President lays the first stone in the foundation of a new academic building of the Kazan Cooperative Institute

On July 15, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a solemn ceremony of the laying of the first stone in the foundation of a new academic building of the Kazan Cooperative Institute (branch) of the Russian University of Cooperation.  

Before the official part began, Minnikhanov and Chairman of the Council of the Central Union of Consumer Societies of Russia Dmitry Zubov, who also took part in the ceremony, had visited the renovated student campus of the Kazan Cooperative Institute.   

A five-storey building of the only student hostel of the Kazan Cooperative Institute was built in 1972. It was never renovated in 40 years. In March 2014 the extensive restoration work started using the funds of the Tatarstan Union of Consumer Societies and under the auspices of the Council of the Central Union of Consumer Societies. Minnikhanov said that the repair was carried out mainly during the student holidays. For a year and a half, the builders have completely changed all communication lines, updated roof, carried out facade repairs. Today, this residential facility is able to house 234 students.

According to Director of the student campus, within less than a month all works will be finished. In particular, before the beginning of the academic year it is planned tp complete the landscaping of the adjacent territory.

Minnikhanov looked around rooms for students, a bathroom, utility rooms, a conference hall, lecture rooms.

Then Minnikhanov and Zubov went to the construction site of a new academic building of the Kazan Cooperative Institute. Addressing participants of the ceremony, Minnikhanov noted that the Tatarstan Union of Consumer Societies was established 100 years ago. "Within the framework of festive events dedicated to mark this date, it was decided to begin construction of a new building of the Kazan Cooperative Institute," he said.

In his turn Dmitry Zubov added that Tatarstan consumer cooperation is considered to be one of the best in the country.  

Then, the honoured guests unveiled a memorial stone, marking the beginning of construction of the new academic building.
