On August 16, in Kazan, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Galiaskar Kamal Tatar State Academic Theatre.
Minnikhanov looked around the square adjacent to the theatre, as well as its foyer and balconies.
Tatarstan President was presented theatre reconstruction options. The reconstruction is mainly aimed at giving the theatre additional space – a rehearsal hall and technical rooms.
Theatre Director Farid Bikchentaev and designer representatives commented on the reconstruction options.
The building located in the centre of Kazan on the bank of the lake Kaban represents the style of Soviet Post-Modernism. The reconstruction project includes certain height limitations.
Minnikhanov said the republic needs a functional reconstruction project that could solve particular tasks – extending the rehearsal and technical space. Besides, he stressed, the building needs to be made more convenient for the audience and the acting company.
Minnikhanov continued that it is important to preserve the building exterior style, adding that the local landscape specifics has to be taken into account, as the theatre is located on the bank of the lake Kaban.
“We need to treat with care what we have,” Rustam Minnikhanov said. “The Kamal theatre is in demand, its productions are of an interest in the audience. The building itself blends in naturally with the city architecture, one can hardly imagine Kazan and Kaban embankment without this theatre with its remarkable roof.”
Following the discussion, Rustam Minnikhanov and his party inspected the Kaban embankments to be reconstructed as well with the focus on environmental sustainability, territorial integrity, accessibility and providing comfortable recreation for the citizens.
