Tatarstan PM opens conference «Kazan sukuk conference»

“Tatarstan leadership hopes for attracting investments into republic with the help of Islamic financial tools such as obligations “sukuk”, - RT Prime Minister said at opening of international conference “Sukuk – new tool of developing regional infrastructure”.

«Kazan sukuk conference» is being held within the limits of the first issue of Islamic obligations sukuk. Special feature of these securities is that terms of their circulation meet requirements of the Sheriat.

Protocol of intentions on issue of independent obligations “sukuk” for Tatarstan Republic was signed within the limits of working visit of RT President Rustam Minnikhanov to Malaysia on December, 14, 2010.

Speaking at the conference, RT PM Ildar Khalikov noted that Tatarstan is one of the most intensively developing regions in Russia with advantageous geographical position, rich raw materials base and high-capacity industry. Network of financial and infrastructure tools for developing business has been created in republic. Ildar Khalikov stressed that it helps attracting substantial financial resources to republic.

By words of RT PM, Tatarstan Republic intensively cooperates with Islamic business. For the last few years there were held a large amount of meetings and events on which potential of republic was presented. One of the most significant was International summit of Islamic business and finances that was held twice.

Head of Tatarstan government noted that Islamic obligations “sukuk” were historically considered to guarantee secure investments. I.Khalikov expressed hope regarding successful results of the conference.

Chairman of RT Committee for developing small and medium business Linar Yakupov informed that «Kazan sukuk conference» is held in Kazan not occasionally. By his words, lately republic has positioned itself as the main area for Islamic finances in Russia.

Director of group of companies «Kuwait Finance house - Malaysia» Jamila Jamaladin noted big potential of Islamic finances.
