Rustam Minnikhanov meets Prime Minister of Bavaria Horst Seehofer

On May 5, during his two-day working visit to Munich, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov had a meeting with Prime Minister of Bavaria Horst Seehofer.

Welcoming the guests, Mr Seehofer said that Bavaria and Russia have been maintaining good relations for many years. He noted that Bavaria's senior officials visit Russia every year, meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In particular, at a meeting held in 2017, agreements on close cooperation in many sectors, including economy and culture, science and education, healthcare, agriculture, etc. were reached, he continued.

Horst Seehofer told Minnikhanov that Bavaria and Tatarstan have much in common, as they are one of the most economically developed regions in their countries - Germany and Russia.

In his turn Minnikhanov thanked Mr Seehofer for the opportunity to meet and for the attention paid by the leadership of Bavaria. He reminded that for the second decade Tatarstan has been closely cooperating with one of the Bavarian companies - Linde AG, and today there are serious prospects and projects for further cooperation.

Germany has traditionally been the largest trade and economic partner of Tatarstan as one of Russia's regions, Minnikhanov said. In 2016, the turnover between Tatarstan and Germany exceeded one billion euros.

Today it is important to maintain and strengthen existing contacts, Minnikhanov said. For its part, Tatarstan is interested in cooperation with companies and enterprises of Germany, the republic has close ties with such regions as Saxony, Thuringia, North Rhine-Westphalia and others, Minnikhanov continued.

Tatarstan President also said that he paid five working visits to Germany in 2016 and this is his second visit to Germany in 2017.

During the meeting they also discussed a number of working issues and topics related to cooperation in some areas.
