Address of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov on the occasion of the Day of official adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria

Dear Tatarstan citizens!

Dear compatriots!

I congratulate you on an important historical event - the Day of official adoption of Islam by Volga Bulgaria.

In distant 922, our ancestors made their choice that predetermined the historical destiny of the Tatar people and marked the influence on the development of Muslim civilization. Today we are looking at our legendary spiritual cradle – the ancient Bolgar, blessing merciful Allah and remembering the deeds of pious rulers and wise theologists.

I am glad that we can witness the revival of this unique holy place that along with Orthodox monasteries of the island town of Sviyazhsk is becoming a Russia and international pilgrim and tourist center.

Due to the efforts of the Revival foundation, a monumental complex of Bolgar Islamic Academy was built for one year. I hope that graduates of the academy will be worthy successors of our rich doctrinal traditions.

The unity of Muslim immah, our multi-national people is a guarantee of wellbeing and prosperity.

I wish you peace and wellbeing! Let Allah bless your good deeds and intentions!
