Address of Rustam Minnikhanov on the occasion of the Russian folk holiday “Karavon”

21 May 2017, Sunday

Dear citizens of Tatarstan!

I congratulate you on the Russian folk holiday “Karavon”!

It goes back to centuries and originates from khorovod, round dances that were held on the threshold of the Day of St Nicholas the Wonderworker in Russkoe Nikolskoe village. Nowadays this holiday has revived, preserving unique features of traditional song and dance creative activities.

The round dance of Karavon warms up everyone, giving the feeling of involvement in Russian folk culture.

This holiday is well known outside the republic. It has become a long-awaited event for many citizens of multi-ethnic Tatarstan and guests from different corners of Russia.

I am sure that this year Karavon and XXV festival of Russian folklore will contribute to the preservation of spiritual values of Russian people.

Let Karavon favour the consolidation of peace and unity of multi-ethnic people of Tatarstan! I wish all participants and guests, all citizens of Tatarstan peace, happiness, health and wellbeing!

Tatarstan President, Rustam Minnikhanov.
