29 June 2017, Thursday

On June 29, at their meeting in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and members of the Russian State Duma on Physical Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth Affairs discussed holding of matches of FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 in Kazan.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov noted that this is a good opportunity to work out many issues in terms of the safety of athletes and guests, logistics, and other areas before the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Even though Tatarstan has gained experience in holding international sports events, there are always things to learn and to improve, Minnikhanov said.

In his turn, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sport, Tourism and Youth Affairs Mikhail Degtyarev noted the need to use the experience and heritage of both the Summer Universiade and the Confederations Cup. He reminded that a rouble invested in sports saves dozens of roubles, allows for a healthy lifestyle and makes contribution to the health of citizens.

He also noted the increased flow of tourists during matches of the Confederations Cup. “It is interesting to see how the tourism industry is growing. Sports events have brought a huge number of tourists and fans to the region,” he said.

Members of the Committee noted that the sports infrastructure of Kazan is developing at the highest level. One of the main tasks is to attract budgetary and extra-budgetary investments for the sports infrastructure, the speakers emphasized.
