Ildar Khalikov takes part in International congress on organic chemistry

International congress on organic chemistry dedicated to 150-anniversary of opening theory of organic compounds structure by native of Chistopol town, founder of Kazan school of organic chemists Aleksandr Butlerov has started in Kazan. Forum is being held within the framework of International year of chemistry announced by the UN General Assembly.
In the opening ceremony took part RT Premier Ildar Khalikov, laureate of Nobel Prize – 2010 in the sphere of chemistry Akiro Suzuki (Japan), Vice-president of Russian academy of sciences Sergei Aldoshin, Head of RT Ministry of education and science Albert Gilmutdinov, rector of Kazan federal university Ilshat Gafurov. Before the ceremony officials laid flowers at the monument to Butlerov in Leninsky garden.
About 500 Russian and foreign scientists are taking part in the event. Among reporters are distinguished world-known professors and academicians, academicians of Russian academy of sciences and directors of major institutes of Russian academy of sciences, deans of chemical departments of Russian universities, leading scientists of Tatarstan. Within 5 days Attendees will have plenary and poster sessions, hear program lectures and discuss dozens of reports.
Opening the event Ildar Khalikov read out greetings of RT President Rustam Minnikhanov:
“I sincerely greet participants of congress on hospitable land of multinational Tatarstan. Kazan is considered to be the cradle of Russian organic chemistry. Here at imperial Kazan university founded 200 years ago, one of the largest chemical schools in the world arose and got firmly established due to work of distinguished chemists Claus, Zimin, Butlerov. The real peak of achievements was creation of theory of organic compounds structure in 1861 that set up new stage of chemistry development”, - it is said in the greetings.
“Development of chemistry has always been connected with production and reforms in social sphere. Modern Tatarstan is the republic of big chemistry. Such enterprises as “Nizhnekamskneftehin”, “Kazanorgsintez”, “Nizhnekamskshina” make the basis and define dynamics of petrochemical industry development. I’m sure that holding a large international forum in International Year of chemistry in Kazan at which distinguished figures of world and domestic chemistry gathered will contribute greatly in development of organic chemistry”, - RT President stated.
According to Ilshat Gafurov, “significance of this event is very tremendous for our university. We have entered new stage of development after getting the status of federal university. Now we are defining our growing points. Arrival of so many distinguished scientists, communication with them will prevent us from making a mistake and help us choosing the write direction”, - rector of Kazan federal university said.
Pro-rector on scientific activity of Kazan federal university Danis Nurgaliev noted that the forum is one of the largest scientific events of International Year of chemistry in Russia. “Nowadays chemistry plays enormous role in peoples’ lives – in the sphere of health care, ecology, transport, nourishment, creation of new materials”, - pro-rector stated.

On 9 May Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in a ceremony of laying flowers to the monument “The victorious soldier” dedicated to the celebrations of the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (WW II) 1941-1945 and held at Arsk cemetery in Kazan.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.
