11 December 2017, Monday

On December 11, in Innopolis, speaking at a plenary meeting held as part of the Digital Skills Competition and All-Russian scientific and practical conference “Training of IT specialists for the digital economy of Russia”, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that the digital economy is a promising area for development both for Russia and for Tatarstan, adding that the implementation of its principles envisages the introduction of digital technology in many areas of society, including public administration, industry, medicine, and education.

Speaking at the meeting, Minnikhanov noted that the training of specialists for the national digital economy is a topical issue. "The world is changing, great digital transformation is underway. At the same time, the requirements for specialists who will work under new conditions are also becoming more demanding. We need to be prepared for these challenges,” he said.

Minnikhanov stressed that Tatarstan focuses on innovative development of the economy, with professional education playing a leading role.

He noted that over 1600 IT companies have been registered in the republic over the last five years.  The innovative city of Innopolis established in the republic houses the IT university, which celebrated its fifth anniversary this year and a special economic zone for companies whose activities are related to the development of high-tech products and services.

New trends in the digital economy require establishing a strong link between the education and the industry, Minnikhanov said. This is reflected in the grant support provided by industry enterprises to students of demanded specialties. The training at the University of Innopolis is organized in the same way. The state also provides the grant support for future IT specialists. "I want to note the growing interest of employers in mid-level professionals, including IT specialists. Enterprises have an increasing need for operators able to manage complex hardware, having good basic programming and foreign language skills,” Tatarstan President added.

Tatarstan President continued that Interregional Competence Centers established in Russia also play an important role in the training of blue-collar specialists.

Minnikhanov wished everyone fruitful work and new interesting projects.

Then the meeting discussed current issues in the field of IT education, training of qualified specialists in the field of information and communication technology, as well as the development of the digital economy.

Minister of Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation Nikolai Nikiforov, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Protection of Russia Lyubov Yeltsova and Director General of the Union of Young Professionals (Worldskills Russia) Robert Urazov, Rector of Innopolis University Aleksandr Tormasov and other officials also took part in the event.
