10 000 pensioners and elderly people to study the basics of computer literacy in Tatarstan in 2012

10 000 pensioners, persons of preretirement and elderly age will study the basics of computer literacy in Tatarstan in 2012, Minister of labor, employment and social protection Airat Shafigullin informed at a briefing in the House of RT Government.

The briefing was held in format of teleconference with all municipal regions of Republic and was webcasted.

By words of Airat Shafigullin such a proposal was made by public All-Russia organization “Union of pensioners” and its regional branch on RT. Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov supported the idea.

By the order of RT President the project “Internet-longevity” will be implemented in accordance with RT Cabinet Decree and a joint decree of RT Ministry of labor, employment and social protection and RT Ministry of education and science. The project budget is 10 mln roubles. Funding will be realized via employment centers.

Computer literacy classes will be organized on the basis of secondary schools and institutions of primary professional education, equipped with computer classes.

Experience obtained within the action “Computer likbez (literacy campaign)” underlies the project “Internet-longevity”. By words of Deputy minister of education and science Andrei Pominov more than 30 000 pensioners were trained within the action. The course comprised 36 academic hours. Instruction was implemented by teachers and senior pupils.

According to Airat Shafigullin the current project “Internet-longevity” includes more categories of citizens, - citizens who receive disability retirement pension, survivor pension, and persons of preretirement age declared unemployed. Training seminars are meant for 72 academic hours. About 200 educational institutions are expected to be used in the process of training.

Answering journalists’ questions Minister of labor, employment and social protection said one can get information about registration for the courses and beginning of classes in local employment centers.
