Tatarstan President meets with Secretary general of World Taekwondo Federation

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met with delegation of World Taekwondo Federation led by Secretary general Jin Suk Yang on January,24.

WTF delegation arrived in Kazan before holding European qualification pre-olympic taekwondo tournament in the capital of Republic. More than 200 sportsmen struggling for participation in Olympic games in London will take part in the tournament on January 27-29.

The event will take place in Palace of single combats. Tatarstan sportsmen will join the Russian team at the tournament.

Opening the meeting Rustam Minnikhanov welcomed guests noting that holding such significant competitions is a great privilege for Republic. “I hope these competitions will favour development of taekwondo in Republic and will be one more step towards Universiade”, Tatarstan President said.

Head of Republic reminded Tatarstan has traditionally been famous for single combats saying that wrestling cultivates physical power and consciousness, respect to elderly people.

Rustam Minnikhanov told Jin Suk Yang that lately much emphasis has been put on sport events in Republic. “Every big competition is a great experience. At such events we practice the work of coordinators, judges and security service”, Head of Tatarstan believes.

RT President noted 25 taekwondo coaches are working and 14 masters of sports training in Tatarstan. “I’m glad Tatarstan sportsmen are members of the Russian team, but we have to think about new results”, Rustam Minnikhanov said. By his words there are good conditions for practicing taekwondo in Tatarstan.

Jin Suk Yang thanked Tatarstan leadership for an offer to organize European qualification pre-olympic taekwondo tournament in Kazan. Secretary general of World Taekwondo Federation is sure the event will bring fresh experience to Tatarstan and favour development of taekwondo in Republic.
