Rustam Minnikhanov: Russia's WTO entry to create new conditions and opportunities for cooperation with APEC countries

Holding of events within the framework of APEC meeting in Kazan is a good chance for participants representing APEC countries to get acquainted with other Russian regions besides the Far East, President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said at a session of APEC trade ministers in Kazan (the Kazan tennis academy).
First Vice Chairman of the RF Government Igor Shuvalov who is on a working trip in Kazan attended the event.
Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that more than 30 events were held during the last two weeks within the framework of APEC forum in Kazan.
“Countries of the Asia-Pacific region are the most rapidly developing in the world. Cooperation with these countries and mutually beneficial foreign-trade activity are priority tasks for the economy of Tatarstan as a Russian region,” the Tatarstan President said.
According to Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan has got experience of cooperating with APEC countries and foreign partners in general. It is proved by realization of such major projects in petrochemistry as JSC TANECO (USA, Japan, Korea, Canada), JSC Ammony (Japan, China), IT projects, - Innopolis-Kazan (Singapore), and international project in the sphere of mechanical engineering “Ford-Sollers”.
Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that helicopters Mi-17 (JSC Kazan helicopters), KAMAZ trucks, produce of shipbuilding enterprises located in Tatarstan are well-known in APEC countries. He believes that Russia’s WTO entry will create new conditions and opportunities for cooperation with APEC countries, and holding of events within the framework of APEC forum in Kazan will give impetus to further cooperation of Russia and its subjects with APEC countries.
Rustam Minnikhanov invited representatives of APEC countries for cooperation saying that Tatarstan offers favorable conditions for investors. Moreover, he told about social and economic development of Tatarstan, its cultural features, historical and architectural monuments located in republic.
On 9 June upon his arrival to the Kazan International Airport, the Russian Minister for Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov was welcomed by Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin.
In Kazan Sergey Lavrov will take part in a meeting of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of State-Participants of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
On 5 May, speaking at a regular meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin informed that currently 63 school catering units are under repairs with the amount of work completed reaching 15 per cent.
On May 26, speaking at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic held in a videoconference mode with participation of all municipal regions of Tatarstan and focused on events scheduled for June 1, International Children’s Day, as well as the implementation of the “Summer in Tatarstan” programme, Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva appealed that parents should closely supervise their children during recreational activities near water in order to prevent accidents.
On 18 May ay the CIPR conference in Nizhniy Nogorod the Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Roman Shaykhutdinov, the Rector of the Innopolis University Aleksandr Gasnikpov and the Vice-rector of the University Yevgeny Bobrov will take part at round tables session of the conference.
Experts will discuss the role of Tatarstan and Innopolis as one of the key technological centers of the country and how regional innovative platforms help to solve tasks of the whole Russian industry. A special emphasis will be placed on the digital transformation of the oil and gas sector and how large clusters and scientific and technological centers are becoming drivers of industry change.
