F1 Grand Prix of the Republic of Tatarstan in Kazan

The round of F1 Powerboat World Championship - Grand Prix of Tatarstan was held in Kazan, the lake Nizhny Kaban. The Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, members of the Tatarstan Government attended the competitions. Tens of thousands of Kazan dwellers also watched the racing on the lakeside.

Before the final race Rustam Minnikhanov walked around the technical camp on the base of the Center of sport training. The excursion was held by F1 Powerboat World Championship promoter Nicolo di San Germano.

Main race started at 17 p.m. and lasted for 45 minutes. Racers completed 40 laps with length of course 1972 meters. From 17 pilots representing 9 teams - «Qatar», «Abu Dhabi», «Nautica», «CTIC China», «Atlantic», «Mad Croc», «Singha», «Sweden», participated in last year’s championship, and new team «Caudwell» with participants from Italy and South Africa only 9 finished the race. The race was yellow-flagged four times in order that rescuers could remove stricken boats from the race course.

Alex Carella representing Qatar team was the first to finish the race. The leader of first round Ahmed Al Hameli from UAE, «Abu Dhabi» team took the second place. French driver Philippe Chiappe of the CTIC China Team earned the bronze medal.
