Rustam Minnikhanov and Sergei Stepashin launch construction of Badminton Center in Kazan

A solemn ceremony of installing the memorable stone at the place of future Badminton Center took place in Kazan today.
Chairman of the Russian Accounts Chamber Sergei Stepashin, the Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, President and Chairman of Supervision Council of the Russian National Badminton Federation Sergei Shakhrai, Chairman of the Tatarstan Accounts Chamber and Chairman of Supervision Council of the RT Badminton Federation Aleksei Demidov participated in the ceremony.
The new center will become the world’s first specialized badminton complex. Its total area will make 4940 m². There will be 12 playing courts. The center will be located near Tennis Academy. It is expected that construction works will be finished by 2014 when Kazan will host European Badminton Cup.
Speaking at a solemn ceremony, Sergei Stepashin noted that he had opened new sports objects in Tatarstan before. “I am sure that the world’s best badminton center will be constructed here,” he said.
According to the Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, the republican leadership started paying attention to badminton 3-4 years ago.
On 15 December, speaking at a meeting of the competition committee of the regional public competition “The Manager of the Year” about its results in 2025, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that the list of 155 participants (nominees), who are heads of enterprises and organizations from various industries and sectors of the economy, for the competition was formed based on recommendations from regional ministries and departments, city and district municipalities, employers' associations and the Federation of Trade Unions of the republic.
On 6 December speaking at a regional meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the regional Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Marat Ayzatullin reported about progress in implementation of the of multi-apartment houses capital overhaul programme.
On 5 December, congratulating volunteers with the International Volunteers Day, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva wrote in her address: “
Your boundless kindness, sincere desire to help others and active civic position deserve special recognition and deep gratitude. There are over 5,000 volunteer associations operating successfully in Tatarstan, with a total membership of over 220,000 caring people of all ages and professions. Every year the contribution of volunteers into public life of the republic becomes more noticeable.
On 4 December Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Gafarov, who is the Chief of Staff of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic, took part in a strategic session on the establishment of an inter-university campus in the republic being held at the Kazan Aircraft University on 4-6 December with participation of more than 100 people and more than 40 experts in politics, economy, science, education and industry from all over Russia.
