9 January 2013, Wednesday
“Organisation of work of the public transport in the Malaysian capital is a good example that should be studied by Kazan specialists,” the Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said during the presentation of Kuala-Lumpur transport system.
The presentation was held at headquarters of the national corporation Syarikat Prasarana Negara. Prasarana company was founded for rendering assistance, realization and speeding-up of the state infrastructure projects approved by the Malaysian Government. 100 % of the company belongs to the Ministry of finance. Prasarana group manages several transport operators, including above-ground subway network of Kuala-Lumpur, - Ampang and Kelana Jaya lines, monorail system of Kuala-Lumpur and bus companies in Kelang Valley, Penang and Kuantan.
The company’s subsidiary KLRapid accomplishes management of buses and above-ground subway and monorail lines in Kuala-Lumpur. KLRapid inherited three separate transport systems and is paying great attention to their integration. All buses are equipped with trackers to track their location, all trains and monorails are controlled. A unified control service enables changing traffic schedules depending on passenger traffic, road situation and other factors.
President of Tatarstan asked if the Government provided any support to public transport in Kuala-Lumpur. Company’s executives said that the government helped to build infrastructure and fix tariffs for passenger carriage, but it did not provide any direct subsidies.
Rustam Minnikhanov noted efficiency of the public transport system in Kuala-Lumpur. “I suppose integration of all types of transport enables finding flexible approaches to formation of the transport scheme. All transport systems must work together, otherwise it leads to conflicts and creates discomfort for passengers,” he said.
The RT President asked KLRapid to receive specialists that would come from Kazan to study the experience for creating efficient transport system.
