“Dear war veterans and homefront workers, servicemen of the Kazan garrison! I’d like to congratulate you on 68th anniversary of Great Victory. Victory Day is a sacred holiday for every Russian citizen. Being the symbol of glory and unity, Victory Day demonstrates power and greatness of spirit of our multi-ethnic nation.
This memorable day is the main state holiday of our country. Every year we recall those terrible years. We achieved that victory at the expense of big losses, - millions of lives, destroyed cities and villages, plants and farms, historical and cultural monuments. More than 700 thousand Tatarstaners went to the front. No other country, no other nation paid such a high price for freedom and independence. Let’s honour the memory of the lost by a minute’s silence.
Tatarstaners made a considerable contribution to our common victory. 7 shooting divisions, one tank division, an artillery regiment, two aviation divisions, 86 aviation regiments, and 6 thousand single crews were formed during war years in Tatarstan.
The War required extreme exertion from all people. At the same time, it showed many examples of firmness and heroism, and became the real school of courage for millions of people. Living legends of war years are among us today - Heroes of the Soviet Union Sabir Akhtyamov and Boris Kuznetsov.
We especially feel link of times and generations on Victory Day. We appreciate that today in spite of declining years you share your priceless experience with the younger generation and take part in veterans’ movement.
Today we pay much attention to patriotic education in republic. The Committee of war veterans and military service of the Republic of Tatarstan, the public organisation “Tatarstan heroes”, and the Council of veterans carry out serious work. For several years Tatarstan has won the contest of the Ministry of Defence for best training of citizens for military citizens.
Unfortunately, there are less and less veterans left today. There are only one hundred thousand veterans living in republic today.
Real measures to support veterans have been taken in Russia and Tatarstan within the last few years.
Dear veterans! I congratulate you on Victory Day and wish you strong health and longevity!”
