5 July 2013, Friday

At a traditional regional meeting in Kazan Tatarstan Minister of Agriculture and Food Marat Akhmetov said that Tatarstan is about to reach the critical point due to heat and drought on fields. He added that the situation is becoming worse.

“Regions must organize all necessary work. The whole republic is about to reach the critical point due to unfavourable weather conditions. We can face abnormal growth and early ripening of grain because of high temperatures and drought. Besides, abnormal temperatures caused the spread of locusts, and their number is increasing. Another urgent problem is forage procurement,” Marat Akhmetov noted.

As for dairy farming, milk production started decreasing two weeks earlier than usually.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov asked all municipal heads to pay serious attention to the issue forage procurement, and use all opportunities to provide the industry with local forage.
