Roman Shaykhutdinov: Innopolis is a growth point for ensuring Russia’s technological independence

On January 25, speaking at a meeting of the Government of the republic dedicated to results of the Digitalization Year in Tatarstan in 2022, Deputy Prime Minister of Tatarstan Roman Shaykhutdinov spoke about the main results of the Innopolis Innovation Centre in 2022 and the tasks for 2023.

Innopolis, which is a growth point for ensuring Russia’s digital sovereignty, continues its sustainable development: today over 7,600 people are in the IT city every day, 547 companies are working, according to forecasts for 2022, their total annual revenue amounted to over 39 billion roubles, which is 36.5 per cent more than in 2021. The volume of taxes and fees paid to budgets of all levels also grows annually - in 2022, it amounted to 3.9 billion roubles. Last year, the volume of attracted federal funding increased by 65 percent to 7.34 billion roubles,” Shaykhutdinov reported.

The University of Innopolis, which celebrated its tenth anniversary last year, is gaining increasing importance on the federal agenda. In 2022-2023 for the first time, there are already more than a thousand students. The University maintains its leadership in the country on the quality of admission of students:

the average score of Unified State Examination of state-funded applicants in 2022 was 99.36. Based on the university, there is the only in the country an assessment-centre for assessing the quality of training of IT-specialists. Under the project «Digital departments», 385,000 graduates of 100 leading universities of the country will be evaluated here, 130,000 of them in 2023.

The work of the University of Innopolis is based on the principle of close interaction of science and business. There are 6 institutes, 16 laboratories and 9 technological centers in which the university successfully implements over 70 projects with a total cost of more than 3 billion roubles. Industrial partners of the university are 261 companies, among them are Roscosmos State Corporation, Gazprom Company, Aeroflot Company, SIBUR Holding, KAMAZ Automaker and Tatneft Oil Company.

In 2022, the University became one of the 30 leading engineering schools in Russia. The school is aimed at training highly qualified IT specialists and ensuring technological sovereignty for the accelerated development of Russian software.

Within the framework of the Support Educational Centre, created on the basis of the university, over 34,000 Russian teachers and methodologists of universities and lecturers of the country were trained in digital competencies last year.

Another federal project successfully implemented by Innopolis University under the federal project "Personnel for the Digital Economy" is providing access to schoolchildren and students of secondary vocational education to verified digital educational content. Over 2 million students from 43 per cent of Russian schools have strengthened their knowledge with the help of digital content provided by the leading online platforms Uchi.ru, Oxford, Yandex and others.

Deputy Prime Minister of the republic also said that the University of Innopolis was included in the development of the Sports Programming Federation of Russia. Among the nearest plans are the opening of a university-based centre for training sports programmers of the republic, holding regular classes and training camps for athletes, as well as advanced training courses for teachers and team coaches.

Innopolis Special Economic Zone continues to work actively with venture investors and business angels, a number of infrastructure projects are being implemented here.

At the end of his speech, Shaykhutdinov said that Innopolis has already proved to be an efficient platform for testing new technologies and products.
