Victoria Abramchenko attends the construction site of the waste burning plant in Kazan and answers questions from Mass Media

On 21 September during her working trip to Tatarstan Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko accompanied by Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin attended the construction site of the waste burning plant in Kazan, where she got acquainted with the facility construction progress.

Giving explanations during the tour round the site, Director General of the RT-Invest Company Andrey Shipelov and the Director General of the AGK-2 Vasiliy Belosevich told that the plant will use the most efficient and wide-spread technology of waste incineration – the burning grate.

Initially the plant was planned to be commissioned together with similar facilities in Moscow region by the end of 2022 by because of COVID pandemic and sanctions the work slowed down.

Answering questions from press after the tour, Victoria Abramchenko said: “According to the company the construction readiness of the facility is 24-25 per cent but there are some problems with the equipment because of sanctions. That is why the RT-Invest is negotiating with Chinese partners who propose the same technological solutions as that from the West. However we have to prove this through ecological expertise and I can assure residents of Kazan that we will not let built a plant if the required parameters will be broken. Even though there is some progress in time line I cannot voice them as we have to finish negotiations with Chinese partners first”.

Speaking about the percentage of waste sorting in the country, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister said: Today the waste treatment percentage is higher than in the previous year and makes nearly 53 per cent. Waste recycling has also grown slightly and reached 12 per cent which is in line with the circular economy.”
