Ildar Khalikov holds session of the Board of guardians of Tatarstan Department of Russian Geographical Society

On October 3 Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov held a session of the Board of guardians of Tatarstan Department of Russian Geographical Society.

Russian Geographical Society is the oldest public organisation in Russia and one of the oldest societies in the world. Main mission of Russian Geographical Society is collection and distribution of geographical data. Expeditions of the Society played an important role in opening Siberia, Far East, Middle and Central Asia, World Ocean, development of navigation, exploration of new lands, formation of meteorology and climatology. In 1956 Russian Geographical joined International Geographical Union.

Russian Geographical Society is headed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and chaired by Minister of Defence Sergey Shoigu.

Tatarstan Department of Russian Geographical Society renewed its activity on April 5, 2010. Main areas of work are promotion of geographical knowledge, holding of researches, development of tourism, education and promotion of healthy way of life among Tatarstan young people.

Ildar Khalikov noted that the Board of guardians was established by recommendation of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov to unite efforts of business structures, state authorities, and members of Russian Geographical Society to realize the assigned tasks.
