Rustam Minnikhanov visits Institute of Microelectronics and Composite Materials IMEC in Brussels

On November 9 Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov visited the Institute of Microelectronics and Composite Materials IMEC in Brussels (Belgium).
To the point, Tatarstan President arrived in Brussels with a two-day working visit (November 8-9, 2013).
IMEC was founded in 1984 as a non-profit organization. It is supervised by a Board of Directors, which includes delegates from industry, Flemish universities and the Flemish Government (one of three Belgium regions). In 2008 IMEC was recognized as an international leader in micro- and nanoelectronics researches. IMEC specializes in conducting world-leading researches in the field of nano-electronics.
Rustam Minnikhanov and IMEC management discussed prospects of cooperation in the sphere of electronics, IT technologies, health care, bio- and nanotechnologies.
Tatarstan President was shown production facilities, office space, laboratories, training facilities, and technical support rooms. By and large, there are 16 unique laboratories for nano-electronics, bio-technologies, silicon and organic technologies, microsystems and materials, hyperspectral imaging, etc.
As a result of the visit, the parties reached an agreement to create a working group, which will include Tatarstan specialists, for joint cooperation with the Center for Nanotechnologies and other research institutes. Rustam Minnikhanov also offered to cooperate wih the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia in some areas.
Later, Rustam Minnikhanov met with management of LMS International. The company was established 30 years ago in Leuven (Belgium). LMS International is an engineering innovation company, which started as a company specializing in noise and vibration and physical prototype testing. In 1983, LMS developed its first computer guided measuring system.
A lot of Russian scientific and research institutes, large industrial enterprises, including OAO “KAMAZ”, use the products and services of LMS International.
LMS has introduced a number of initiatives on creation of industrial innovative centers for developing products and searching technological partners in Russia. LMS offers its participation in creation of automobile competence center in Russia as one of the initiatives. Tatarstan, having an automotive cluster, could become the place for creation of such center.

On 12 April in his address to residents of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin congratulated them with the Space Exploration Day and said: “April 12, 1961 has forever been inscribed into the world history as the day of triumph of the Soviet science and engineering thought. The flight of Yuriy Gagarin opened the way to the stars for the humankind and demonstrated to the whole world the might of our country.
On 4 April , speaking at a closing ceremony of the XX Russian Venture Forum held at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin said that the Russian Venture Forum has confirmed its status of the point of attraction of technological development leaders.
The Forum created a unified scientific, technological and investment space where scientific ideas are transformed into competitive products, and startups gain access to capital and markets. Its business programme is organically integrated into the regional and federal agenda for achieving technological sovereignty and leadership of Russia, he said.
On 1 April Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and Russian Minister of Healthcare Mikhail Murashko introduced Ayrat Farrakhov, who was appointed the Acting Rector of Kazan State Medical University (KSMU) to its staff.
In his speech Mikhail Murashko emphasized that today KSMU is rightfully considered one of the most respected in the country and said:”Ayrat (Zakievich) has been officially appointed the Acting Rector and I am sure that under his leadership the University will maintain the positions it has achieved and, of course, will continue its development.”
On 31 March in the Government House of the republic Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva hold a meeting of the Commission on the Russian language under the Rais of Tatarstan, which considered key issues of supporting and developing Russian language, including new educational initiatives and discussed programmes of popularization of Russian literature and activities to preserve the language heritage.
