As many as 18 Tatarstan cultural heritage sites have been included into the state register in 2026
On 22 July, speaking at a briefing in Tatarstan Government House, the Chairman of the regional Committee for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites Ivan Guschin informed that 18 new cultural heritage sites of the republic have been included in the United State Register in the current year.
Currently 2 041 sites of the republic are listed in the Register, he said, and furthermore protection zones were established for 29 cultural sites in Kazan, Mamadysh, Alekseevskoe and Kaybitsy regions of the republic , with 91 more sites in nine municipalities to be included later.
Ivan Guschin reminded that at a plenary session of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2026, the Russian President Vladimir Putin marked Tatarstan as one of the best regions in working with cultural heritage sites and said that one of priority tasks of the state for today is to establish legal conditions for maximum involvement of investors into the sphere of preservation and restoration of cultural heritage sites. Through legislation, the state is removing barriers and establishing incentives so that the private sector views restoration as a promising area, he stated.
The Chairman of the Committee also informed that in the current year the republic allocated 3.2bn rubles, including 216m from the federal and 2.4bn from the regional budgets, to design and restoration.
Ivan Guschin mentioned a mosque in the Aybash Settlement and a 19th century wooden church in the Village of Upper Bagryazh as one of important examples of the completed restoration and informed about work being done in restoration of the Kazan Kremlin, in particular in the Syuyumbike Tower.
In conclusion he told about repairs being done at four sites of the Ancient Bolgar, which is the UNESCO Heritage site, and emphasized that preservation of cultural heritage is the task which requires joint efforts of the state and the society.
