Rustam Minnikhanov: About 16 thousand foreign workers from 54 countries received work permit in Tatarstan in 2013
25 February 2014, Tuesday
On February 25 Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in a seminar of Russian prosecutor's offices within Volga federal district on organisation of prosecutor's supervision in the sphere of migration processes.
Tatarstan Prosecutor Ildus Nafikov made a report at the seminar.
According to participants of the seminar, migration processes play an essential role in social, economic and demographic development of the country. Relocation of migrants to Russia for permanent living has become one of the resources to increase the population, while attraction of qualified foreign workers is necessary for development of the country’s economy. At the same time, a constant flow of citizens from the near and far abroad countries sometimes has a negative impact on the current situation.
Rustam Minnikhanov addressed participants of the seminar with a welcome speech and said that about 16 thousand foreign workers from 54 countries received work permit in Tatarstan in 2013.
“The number of migrants willing to come to the republic increase every year. Last year about 197 thousand foreign citizens were registered at the migration service, which is 59 percent more than five years ago. However, the attitude of local dwellers to migrants is not always positive, because they are not highly-skilled and do not speak Russian well. This issue requires delicate and reasonable approach. Tatarstan is a multiethnic republic, where nations live peacefully together. We developed a number of programmes aimed at maintaining public and political stability in the region, such as regional programme on harmonization of interethnic relations. ” Rustam Minnikhanov noted.
Deputy Head of Department of Russian General Prosecutor’s Office within Volga Federal District Alexander Korsunov, Deputy Head of Department for supervision over the observance of human rights and freedoms Nikolay Chestnykh and other officials took part in the seminar.
