Participants of the forum “Safety and communication” discuss road safety

On February 27 participants of III International research conference "Modern problems of life safety: present and future" discussed road safety within the framework of the forum “Safety and communication” in Kazan (February 27-March 1).

More than 250 people, employees of Tatarstan and Russian ministries and agencies, foreign and Russian scientists took part in the conference.

Ildar Khalikov noted that road accidents cause life-threatening situations for participants of road traffic, in spite of development of road networks, technological progress, improvement of legislation. It is a very urgent problem, and not all solutions are efficient, he added.

Experts of University of Michigan found out that 18 people for 100 thousand of population die every year because of road accidents. Death rates differ and depend on economic development of countries. Most people die in Namibia, Thailand and Iran.

Tatarstan faces serious problems in this term. 700 people die because of road accidents in the region. For the last 10 years the number of vehicles increased from 700 thousand to 1.5 mln. The number of violations increased from 1 to 5 mln.

Head of State Road Safety Inspectorate Rifkat Minnikhanov made report on use of control and supervision facilities and study of road safety issues in Tatarstan, key projects under implementation and adaptive traffic control technology.

Specialists from Norway, Finland and other countries delivered speeches at the conference.
