Rustam Minnikhanov: “Achievements of our divers should become the example for young people”

On March 14, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met with members of the diving research team of All-Russia public organisation “Russian Geographical Society” in Tatarstan, participants of a record project “Cold pole”.

The divers told Rustam Minnikhanov about their record-setting expedition to the lakes near the cold pole in Yakutiya.

Tatarstan divers set two world records, exploring two lakes, Labynkyr and Vorota in Oymyakon. Members of the expedition dived to the depth of 52 meters in Lake Labynkyr. When exploring Lake Vorota, they went down to the depth of 59.6 meters, which is a record-breaking depth under such conditions.

The purpose of diving was exploration of lakes, testing organism and equipment in extreme conditions, as well as collection of bottom and water samples. The collected samples were given to biologists. Scientists from the Institute of biological problems of cryolithic zone of Siberian department of Russian Academy of Sciences also walked with Tatarstan divers. The divers took the flag of the Kazan Kremlin with them under water.

Before the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov presented awards and letters of gratitude to members of the expedition team.

Participants of the expedition presented the team’s flag signed by its members to Rustam Minnikhanov.

Chief of Staff of the Administrative Office of Tatarstan President Asgat Safarov, Vice Premier – Chief of Staff of the Administrative Office of Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers Shamil Gafarov took part in the meeting.
