26 June 2014, Thursday

On June 26, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met with delegation of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region led by Chairman of people's government Shi Dagan.

Earlier this year, in April, Rustam Minnikhanov met with Shi Dagan during his visit to Ürümqi, the capital of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. This time executives and businessmen of the region came to Kazan with the return visit.

Welcoming members of the delegation, Tatarstan President said that Tatarstan leadership appreciates the opportunity to develop cooperation between China and Tatarstan within the framework of friendly Russia-China relations.

Rustam Minnikhanov thanked Shi Dagan for warm reception during his visit to Ürümqi.

“We consider your return visit to be the evidence of further strengthening of relations between our regions and opportunity to discuss new projects. We are glad to present economic, cultural, educational and tourist potential of our republic,” Rustam Minnikhanov said.

Tatarstan President informed Shi Dagan about development of cooperation with China, its regions and major companies. “We believe we have to interact closer and are planning to open our representative office in China. We also think launching direct flights between Ürümqi and Kazan makes sense,” Rustam Minnikhanov continued.

The President thanked leadership of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region for comfortable conditions provided for Tatars living in the region. He also said that Tatarstan is interested in attracting Chinese investors.

Chairman of people's government of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Shi Dagan, in his turn, thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for warm reception of the delegation in Kazan, noting that the visit would favour development of contacts between the regions.

Memorandum of intentions on cooperation between OAO Grid company and TBEA, one of world’s leading transformer manufacturer, was signed at the end of the meeting.
