14 May 2009, Thursday

RT Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the opening of the 5 session of Council of chiefs of migration bodies of states-members of CIS. He said that CIS state-members should work out the coordinated policy on migration issues. The session was held by Director of Russian Federal migration service Konstantin Romodanovsky.

Head of Tatarstan government greeted the participants on behalf of republican leadership pointing out that the session is urgent in terms of regulation of migration flow in CIS. He briefly characterized Tatarstan economy. By a number of economic rates Tatarstan is a leader among the regions of Privolzhsky federal district and one of the leading federation subjects. Thus, 7 % of oil, 24 % of trucks, 45 % of polyethylene, up to 70 % of all Russian sterol, 30 % of auto tyres are produced in Tatarstan.

Rustam Minnikhanov considers that Tatarstan is a concentration of migration streams. In 2008 more than 140 000 of foreigners visited Tatarstan (100 000 – from CIS countries). The main reason of their arrival is search for job. Annually 20-25 000 of work permits are issued in republic.

Migrants are mostly in demand in construction of petrochemical and oil-refining plants complex (Nizhnekamsk), plant for production of ammonia, methanol and granulated carbamide (Mendeleevsk), works in special economic zone “Alabuga”.

Extra resources would be needed in connection with preparation for summer Universiade 2013. Prime Minister also stressed that, currently, the process of development of visa mechanisms are underway that to be used in reception of guests and sportsmen to World summer students’ games 2013 and later for organization and holding of Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi. The boiling problems for today are illegal migration, suppression of criminal situations and others.
