Crop harvesting starts in Tatarstan, with 79,000 hectares or 5 per cent of area having been thrashed

On July 26, speaking at a regional meeting held by Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov with the participation of all municipal regions at Tatarstan Government House, Tatarstan Prime Minister – Minister of Agriculture and Food Marat Akhmetov said that the crop harvesting campaign started in Tatarstan.

Minnikhanov asked to focus on successful harvesting in 2014. We should harvest every kilogram of grain, he said.

According to Marat Akhmetov, as of July 26, 79,000 hectares or 5 per cent of the area have been thrashed in the republic. The croppage makes 188,000 tonnes, including 131,000 tonnes of winter wheat. The average yield makes 23.7 centners per hectare, including 24.6 tonnes of winter wheat.

Marat Akhmetov reported that the harvesting rates differ significantly in some regions, while there are areas and farms that have not started harvesting yet.

Tatarstan also continues to procure forage fodder. As of July 26, 900,000 tonnes of fodder units, including 470,000 thousand tonnes of hay and 2,300 tonnes of haylage, have been conserved.

Marat Akhmetov also reported on harvesting machinery available in the regions, including purchased self-propelled mowers and trailed reapers.
