II Summer Sports Competitions of Transneft opens in Kazan

On July 26, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Transneft President Nikolay Tokarev, Director General of the North West Oil Trunk Pipelines, JSC (SZMN) Rifgat Khakimov took part in solemn opening of the II Summer Sports Competitions of Transneft subsidiaries in Universiade Village, Kazan. More than 400 sportsmen from Russian regions, employees of 18 Transneft subsidiaries are taking part in the competitions.
Participants of the event say the event is not just an obligation, but the opportunity to realize their potential in work and in sport.
Participants of the event will compete in basketball, volleyball, field and track, mini-football, chess, table tennis and swimming. The board of referees is represented by 60 experts of Russian and Tatarstan sports federations. The chief referee is a member of the Presidential Council for physical culture and sport, honoured master of sports, three-time Olympic champion, multiple world and European synchronous swimming champion Olga Brusnikina.
Event managers say that Kazan was chosen for holding the competitions because it is the most developed sports city in the country, with lots of modern sports venues where Russian and international sports events are held.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rustam Minnikhanov said that Transneft company is a strategic partner of Tatarstan as for 70 years oil has been produced in Tatarstan, and oil industry is the basis of the regional economy.
Summing up, Transneft President Nikolay Tokarev announced opening of the II Summer Sports Competitions of Transneft subsidiaries.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.

On 24 April in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin held a joint meeting the Council for Enforcement of Legislation of Languages of Tatarstan and the organizational committee for celebrations of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay which summarized results of work of the regional law enforcement on official languages of the republic and considered progress of the implementation of the plan of main events for preparation and celebration of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay .
