Rustam Minnikhanov meets delegates of International Congress of Women

On August 22, at the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov met participants of the I International Congress of Women, being held in Kazan.
The Congress is held under the auspices of the Federation Council, State Duma of the Russian Federation, Tatarstan President, Eurasian Economic Commission and Kazan Mayor's Office. About 400 delegates from 16 countries, including deputies, business owners and top-managers, legislators, and public association executives, are taking part in the event.
Opening the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov thanked participants of the Congress for their interest in the republic. “You are taking part in a significant event,” he said.
Minnikhanov said that in Tatarstan the women’s movement has two centuries of history. Today, The Women of Tatarstan is the largest women’s organization in Tatarstan.
Noting that participants of today’s meeting represent diplomatic missions of various foreign states, Rustam Minnikhanov said that Tatarstan strives to extend the international cooperation and is ready for new joint business projects with foreign partners.
“Each country represented here is unique and I am sure that we will find areas for cooperation to expand our trade and economic, cultural and educational contacts," Tatarstan President said.
He briefed the delegates about the regional economy and achievements the republic had made in culture and education. The women, participants of the Congress, in their turn, thanked Tatarstan President for warm reception, said that they were impressed by what they saw in Kazan and called the Congress a success.
Summing up, Rustam Minnikhanov wished the delegates of the Congress to visit Kazan again.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.

On 24 April in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin held a joint meeting the Council for Enforcement of Legislation of Languages of Tatarstan and the organizational committee for celebrations of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay which summarized results of work of the regional law enforcement on official languages of the republic and considered progress of the implementation of the plan of main events for preparation and celebration of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay .
