Rustam Minnikhanov visits cultural heritage sites in the historic centre of Kazan

On September 7, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by Aide to Tatarstan President Olesya Baltusova, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, Minister of Construction, Architecture and Utilities Irek Faizullin, Minister of Culture Airat Sibagatullin, Chief Architect of Kazan Tatyana Prokofieva visited cultural heritage sites in the historic centre of Kazan.
The excursion started from Ulyanov-Lenin street that was notable for its wooden architecture. Issues of the street development were discussed three years ago.
According to Olesya Baltusova, architectural and spatial image of the street still requires control of the city authorities, and site development is underway.
Some buildings are being reconstructed but their owners. The street attracts guests of Kazan by its unique wooden architecture. Rustam Minnikhanov addressed city services with requirement to develop a pedestrian area from Old Believers' Church to Ulyanov-Lenin street.
He looked around houses No.16, 24, 31, 20 and Katanovsky pereulok, where the Academicians Arbuzovs museum is located.
The house of a composer Farid Yarullin was sold by auction in 2013, and reconstruction works are being finished under the supervision of an architect Irina Aksenova.
Rustam Minnikhanov also looked around the buildings No. 46 and 42 in Volkov street, where he gave recommendations on façade refurbishment.
The last building visited by the President was the former Shamov hospital in Rosha Frunze street that is planned to be refurbished.
On 8 May, speaking at a meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with participation of the Acting Chairman of the State Council of the republic Marat Akhmetov and the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, the Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Marat Ayzatullin reported that capital overhaul of social facilities is in full swing in the republic with 170 educational facilities having been included into regional and federal programmes.
On 4 May at a briefing held in the Tatarstan Government House it was told that currently there are 92 combat veterans, the last witnesses of the Great Patriotic War (WW II) of 1941-1945, living in the republic. The briefing also informed about veterans’ support measures and how the republic is planning to celebrate the Victory Day on 9 May.
The Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva told that names of 353 Heroes of the Soviet Union from Tatarstan “ are immortalized in street names, on memorials, in monuments and squares and, of course, in our memory”. “The Victory Day is the day of memory, mourning and joy. It is the event which today should be clearly understandable to all young people and younger generation of Tatarstan,” she said.

On 24 April in the Government House of the republic, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin held a joint meeting the Council for Enforcement of Legislation of Languages of Tatarstan and the organizational committee for celebrations of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay which summarized results of work of the regional law enforcement on official languages of the republic and considered progress of the implementation of the plan of main events for preparation and celebration of the 140th birthday of Gabdulla Tukay .
