Public hearings be held by Kazan Mayor’s office as regards construction of sport objects for Universiade-2013 in a bank zone of Kazanka river

A videoconference briefing was held in the RT Cabinet with participation of all municipal regions and broadcasted in Internet.

The representatives of RT Ministry of ecology and nature resources and the City Mayor’s office answered journalist’s questions concerning development of Kazan infrastructure in a bank zone of the Kazanka river.

The reason of many questions from city public and representatives of nature-conservative organizations was the letter from “Greenpeace” to Tatarstan President which said that construction of new objects in Kazanka water basin would harm ecological situation within the precincts of the city.

We remind that it is planned to construct such objects for Universiade-2013 as a football stadium for 41 000 places and a palace of water sports on the right side of Kazanka river.

By words of Deputy Head of Kazan executive committee Emil Khusnutdinov 78 hectares are to be used for the above mentioned purposes. Only 8 % of area will be used for construction, the rest 92 % - for equipping with services and utilities.

Head of hydrologic laboratory of Institute of ecological problems of RT Academy of sciences Asiya Gorshkova assured representatives of mass media that quality of water in the Kazanka river would not become inerior and the ecological situation worsen by and large. Vice versa, cleaning of Kazanka bottom will be possible and watercourse of the river turns better.

No damage gets construction to Kuibyshev water storage basin likewise.
