Regional leaders show their support for World Car-Free Day

On September 22, on World Car-Free Day, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov and Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov showed their support for the action. Rustam Minnikhanov rode a bike to his office, while Ildar Khalikov went on foot.
Held annually since 1973, World Car-Free Day promotes improvement of mass transit, cycling and walking, and the development of communities where jobs are closer to home and where shopping is within walking distance. The event encourages motorists to give up their cars at least for a day.
Upon arrival, Rustam Minnikhanov said that he used a bicycle to come to his workplace quite often, not only during some special actions. “It is very good for your health, I recommend everyone to do it,” Minnikhanov said.
Heads of some ministries and departments also expressed their intention to support World Car-Free Day. Thus, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Information and Communications of the republic Roman Shaikhutdinov will bike to work today, while Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin will traditionally get to work by using the metro.
On 6 December speaking at a regional meeting held by the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in the Government House of the republic with all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the regional Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector Marat Ayzatullin reported about progress in implementation of the of multi-apartment houses capital overhaul programme.
On 5 December, congratulating volunteers with the International Volunteers Day, Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva wrote in her address: “
Your boundless kindness, sincere desire to help others and active civic position deserve special recognition and deep gratitude. There are over 5,000 volunteer associations operating successfully in Tatarstan, with a total membership of over 220,000 caring people of all ages and professions. Every year the contribution of volunteers into public life of the republic becomes more noticeable.
On 4 December Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Shamil Gafarov, who is the Chief of Staff of the Office of the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic, took part in a strategic session on the establishment of an inter-university campus in the republic being held at the Kazan Aircraft University on 4-6 December with participation of more than 100 people and more than 40 experts in politics, economy, science, education and industry from all over Russia.
On 1 December Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in N.I. Lobachevsky Prize and Medal Award Ceremony held in Kazan Federal University and handed in the award to the Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Chief Researcher of the St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Ivanov who was awarded for the outstanding achievements in fundamental and applied mathematics.
