Cisco Innovation Centre opens at Kazan Federal University

On October 7, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in the opening of the Cisco Innovation Centre at Higher School of Information Technologies and Information Systems of Kazan Federal University.

The purpose of creation of the Centre at Higher School of Information Technologies and Information Systems of Kazan Federal University is implementing innovative scientific and applied research projects in demand by business and government on domestic and international markets; development of import-substituting technologies and services involving university staff, graduate students, students, representatives of the real sector of the economy of Tatarstan. Communication system, navigation system and advanced  aerial design projects will be implemented at the Innovation Centre.

Today Rustam Minnikhanov and other honoured guests were shown laboratory equipment of the new Innovation Centre.

President of Cisco's EMEAR business Chris Dedicoat, who took part in the opening ceremony, thanked Minnikhanov for his dedication to the ideas of innovative development and assured him of the support of the Innovation Centre project by Cisco.

The Tatarstan President, in his turn, stressed that Cisco is a strategic partner of the republic. "We have come a long way together, but the time requires new steps, and today you have made a new big step. I'm sure that the opening of the Innovation Centre will bring many benefits to Cisco and our republic, and many of our projects and developments will be replicated not only in Russia but also abroad," Minnikhanov said addressing Chris Dedicoat.

Later, agreements were signed in the presence of Tatarstan President. President of Cisco's EMEAR business Chris Dedicoat and Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Information and Communications Roman Shaikhutdinov signed a road map on collaboration between Cisco and Tatarstan. Chris Dedicoat and Rector Kazan Federal University Ilshat Gafurov signed an agreement of intent between Cisco and Kazan Federal University.

Within the framework of today’s event, Rustam Minnikhanov was presented a "smart bus" project, which is a new development of Kazan IT-specialists. An ordinary city shuttle bus is equipped with high speed internet access and video cameras to monitor the traffic situation. As a result, the bus cameras can independently record various traffic violations and send information to the traffic police servers.
