17 October 2014, Friday

On October 17, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov took part in All-Russia video conference on measures on development of livestock farming and small businesses in rural areas held by Chairman of Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev.

Opening the meeting, Dmitry Medvedev said the discussed issue is very important. “Considering new tasks set before agricultural industry (including food safety under sanctions imposed against Russia), you should make decisions that will facilitate development of livestock farming, even taking into account difficult financial situation. We should enlarge the range of meat and milk products,” he said.

According to Dmitry Medvedev, Russia has to reduce the reliance of domestic food market on import of meat and milk products, and farms can render major support in this sphere. He noted that in 2013 self-employed entrepreneurs and farmers produced 10 per cent of domestic products, 5 per cent of which in livestock sector.

For the period of 2008-2013, the government allocated 315 billion roubles for livestock farming development, he said.

Dmitry Medvedev noted that the cost of loans is the main reason that impedes livestock farming development. Therefore, the Head of the Russian Government called for using both traditional mechanisms of state support and new ones, such as recovery of investors’ costs for completed projects.
