Address of Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov on the occasion of International Anti-corruption Day

9 December 2014, Tuesday

On December 9, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov addressed citizens of Tatarstan on the occasion of International Anti-corruption Day.

“Dear citizens of Tatarstan! The General Assembly of the United Nations announced December 9 the International Anti-corruption Day. Corruption is abuse of official position against legal interests of the society and state for the purpose of gaining personal benefit. This phenomenon affects relations between authorities and population, economic situation, competitiveness of the republic and all spheres of public relations. A decisive and systemic approach is required on the part of the state and citizens to fight against corruption. Regional anti-corruption programmes that have been implemented in Tatarstan since 2006 are serving these purposes. Work of the Anti-corruption council is an efficient mechanism against corruption.

At sessions of the council most acute problems connected with corruption risks are discussed, proposals on implementing the anti-corruption strategy are prepared for Tatarstan President.

Law enforcement bodies that help to reveal and investigate corruption-related crime make a considerable contribution to anti-corruption work. Tatarstan is a rapidly developing region today, and it aims to increase its investment attractiveness, industrial modernization and building innovative potential. But all our economic achievements are impossible without resolute fight against corruption. I am sure that future success of our republic depends on principled position of every citizen.”
