Measures to reduce road accidents in Tatarstan discussed at Tatarstan Government House

On December 10, at Tatarstan Government House Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, Tatarstan Prime Minister Ildar Khalikov, Chairman of State Council of the republic Farid Mukhametshin and heads of municipalities took part in a joint meeting of Tatarstan Cabinet of Ministers and Ministry of Internal Affairs on increasing traffic safety in the Republic of Tatarstan and decreasing the number of road accidents.

Making a report at the meeting, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic Artem Khokhorin noted some positive dynamics of main indicators of road accidents and fatalities in Tatarstan in 2014. According to him, for ten months of the current year 512 people were killed in traffic crashes which is 75 people less as compared with the same period last year. The number of children killed has reduced three times.

"I think that is the result of our comprehensive and systematic efforts," he said.

Khokhorin went on to say that stricter requirements for driver training in driving schools have a positive impact on the reduction of traffic accidents. Also, no cases of serious accidents involving school buses happened in 2014.

Khokhorin also drew attention to the need to ensure pedestrians with reflective elements, which become mandatory on country roads during hours of darkness dark from July 1, 2015. He also reported on violations of traffic rules by the officials.
