12 February 2015, Thursday
On February 12, speaking at a session of the Federal Migration Service in Tatarstan Acting Prime Minister of the republic Aleksey Pesoshin appreciated its work done in 2014. “The Federal Migration Service in Tatarstan is in position to effectively deal with any challenges,” he said.

Making a report on results of work in 2014, Head of Federal Migration Service in Tatarstan Sergey Chepushtanov said that by and large 172,000 people were registered by the migration service last year.

According to Chepushtanov, Tatarstan ranks third in the Volga Federal District in the number of people registered by the migration registration, following after Samara and Nizhny Novgorod regions.

Chepushtanov went on to say that the number of foreigners living in the republic increases every year. Today as many as 20,000 foreign citizens live in Tatarstan either permanently or temporarily, of whom almost 4,000 people were issued a temporary residence permit last year alone, while another 2,500 people got a permanent residence permit. "They are the ones who decided to settle down in our country and become Russian citizens," he said.

Speaking at the meeting Pesoshin said that such issues as illegal migration and illegal employment are still of major concern for the Tatarstan Department. "The negative consequences of such violations are increase in crime, failure to comply with the tax law, massive outflow of funds to the countries of residence of migrants, tension in the social sphere," he summed up.
