13 March 2015, Friday
Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov started a session of the Economic Council held on March 13 with a minute’s silence in memory of people who died in the fire at Admiral shopping center Wednesday afternoon.
“It is an awful tragedy. Rescue operations and work on removing the rubble are still carried out, and we do not know how many more people we will find,” the president said.
Rustam Minnikhanov said that criminal cases were opened and law enforcement agencies were charged with conducting a detailed investigation and controlling the situation. “Someone is always guilty of such tragedies. The building did not meet fire safety requirements,” Minnikhanov said.
Tatarstan President noted that managers of the shopping center did not ensure safety in the emergency situation and could not organize clearing operations.
He gave a task to carry out meetings of commissions on emergency situations and required to ensure safety in public places.
