Rustam Minnikhanov takes part in IX All-Russia national festival of the Chuvash culture "Uyav" in Nurlat

On June 27, in Nurlat, Interim President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov took part in IX All-Russia national festival of the Chuvash culture "Uyav".

Chairman of Tatarstan State Council Farid Mukhametshin, Chairman of Chuvash State Council Yuri Popov, Minister of Culture of Tatarstan Ayrat Sibagatullin and other officials took part in the event.

Minnikhanov visited national farmsteads and got acquainted with handicraft products.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minnikhanov noted that "Uyav" is a holiday for all Tatarstan citizens. Thanks to it, we can see into the culture of the Chuvash people, learn more about their traditions, he added.

"It is important that peoples could preserve their culture, language and customs. Without such holidays we can lose the cultural wealth that exists in our country," he said.

Minnikhanov also noted the high level of organization of the festival and thanked the creative teams which arrived in Nurlat region.

Then Rustam Minnikhanov presented letters of thanks of the President of Tatarstan to people who have made the greatest contribution to the preservation and promotion of traditional national culture.

On behalf of leadership of the Republic of Chuvashia Chairman of the State Council of the Chuvash Republic Yuri Popov congratulated the guests on the holiday. All-Russia holiday of Chuvash culture "Uyav" has been widely celebrated in Nurlat since 2006, he said. "This holiday has a rich and interesting history. For hundreds of years after the end of spring field work our ancestors gathered at a large glade, wore their best clothes and had a tremendous time," Popov said.
