Rustam Minnikhanov: The idea to develop water sports for the benefit of our nations unites us

On July 23, at Korston Hotel in Kazan, FINA President Julio Maglione, Russian Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko, Interim President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and President of the Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov attended the session of FINA General Congress.
Welcoming the audience, Vitaly Mutko said that major efforts aimed at development of water sports are taken in the country. About 300 swimming pools and aquatics centers have been built for the last five years in Russia.
“Russia is the open sports country that hosts big sport events. After 2013 Summer Universiade Kazan can host other international competitions. We want sport to unite people, expand boundaries, and provide comfortable conditions for sportsmen,” Mutko added. He noted that the sports heritage of big international events helps to promote sport and healthy lifestyle and involve young people into sports.
Vitaly Mutko thanked FINA for conducting the mission in the sphere of sports development and promotion of sports among countries. He wished sportsmen who will take part in the championships good luck and spectators to enjoy fascinating competitions.
Speaking at the event, Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that FINA World Championship that will be held in Russia for the first time opens on July 24.
“The idea to develop water sports for the benefit of our nations unites us,” Minnikhanov said. He added that all sports infrastructure was prepared for the competitions. There are 160 swimming pools in the republic, 6, 000 people take up water polo, platform diving and synchronized swimming at sports schools.
Participants of the championship will be able to enjoy an interesting entertainment programme with the main actions taking place in FINA park. Volunteers will render necessary assistance to participants of the championship.
“I am sure that FINA World Championship will be a spectacular sports event of the year promoting consolidation of peace in the world,” Rustam Minnikhanov stated.

On 4 January Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, who is the First Deputy Chairman of the Commission of prevention and elimination of emergency situation and ensuring fire safety of the republic, has taken a decision to put into operation the “Buran” (Snow storm) plan in Tatarstan starting from 2 pm on 4 January until the consequences of adverse meteorological events are eliminated by ministries, departments and organizations which ensure the smooth movement of road and rail transport in winter.
On 3 January on the errand from the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin, who is the First Deputy Chairman of the Commission of prevention and elimination of emergency situations and ensuring fire safety of the republic , held an urgent meeting of the Commission which discussed readiness of forces and means to ensure security during the New Year and Christmas holidays.
On 29 December, speaking at a briefing held in Tatarstan Government House on issues of ensuring the uninterrupted operation of road services and housing and communal services during the holidays, the First Deputy Minister of Construction, Architecture and Housing Utilities Sector of the republic Damir Shaydullin said that during the holidays special attention will be given to providing heat supply to apartment buildings.
On 24 December Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin took part in a charity action “The Christmas Tree of Wishes” held during the 17th session of the State Council of the republic of the seventh convocation.
The Head of the Government of the republic will fulfill wishes of five-year old Landysh who dreams of a guitar, 13-year old Zariva who will get a smart speaker, eight-year old Leyla dreaming of a bike and 16-year old Evelina who will be given an e-book.
