Rustam Minnikhanov: Promoting interregional cooperation is a reliable mechanism for strengthening Russia-China strategic relations

On October 12, speaking at a between Russian Deputy Government Chairman Dmitry Rogozin, China State Council Vice Premier Wang Yang and Russia and China company CEOs and regional governors that took place within the 2nd Russia-China Expo in Harbin, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that promoting interregional cooperation is a reliable mechanism for strengthening Russia-China strategic relations.
Welcoming the meeting participants, Minnikhanov thanked Russian Federation and People’s Republic of China authorities who have done a lot to promote interregional cooperation. It was a good tool for consolidating the relations between Russia and China, he added.
“Tatarstan is one of Russia’s leading and industrially developed regions. Our republic ranks first in the Russian list of regions with the most favourable investment climate. We are interested in Chinese companies choosing our republic to enter the Russian market,” he stressed.
Culture, education, research, sport and tourism are areas with good potential for cooperation with China, Minnikhanov said. Kazan is a leading research and education centre, he went on to add. About 400 Chinese students study at Kazan higher schools. A Confucius Culture Institute is active at Kazan Federal University. “We are interested in more Chinese students coming to Kazan universities,” Tatarstan President stated.
Cooperation in the field of tourism should be promoted as well, he continued. In conjunction with China’s Agency for International Tourism, a touristic route to Kazan has been developed. According to Minnikhanov, launching direct flights between Kazan and Chinese cities could facilitate an increase in tourist traffic.
Summing up, Tatarstan President thanked his vis-a-vis for the invitation, and called on the Chinese counterparts to promote cooperation with Tatarstan.
On May 26, speaking at a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers of the republic held in a videoconference mode with participation of all municipal regions of Tatarstan and focused on events scheduled for June 1, International Children’s Day, as well as the implementation of the “Summer in Tatarstan” programme, Deputy Prime Minister of the republic Leyla Fazleeva appealed that parents should closely supervise their children during recreational activities near water in order to prevent accidents.
On 18 May ay the CIPR conference in Nizhniy Nogorod the Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister Roman Shaykhutdinov, the Rector of the Innopolis University Aleksandr Gasnikpov and the Vice-rector of the University Yevgeny Bobrov will take part at round tables session of the conference.
Experts will discuss the role of Tatarstan and Innopolis as one of the key technological centers of the country and how regional innovative platforms help to solve tasks of the whole Russian industry. A special emphasis will be placed on the digital transformation of the oil and gas sector and how large clusters and scientific and technological centers are becoming drivers of industry change.
On 16 May, speaking at a meeting in the Government House of the republic held by the regional Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin with participation of the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and all municipalities taking part in it via videoconference, the Minister of Agriculture and Food of the republic Marat Zyabbarov reported that the sowing of spring crops is in full swing in the republic with 1m 38 thousand hectares or 61 per cent of the planned have been sown.
On May 14, on the sidelines of the XVII International Economic Forum “Russia-the Islamic World: KazanForum”, Tatarstan Prime Minister Aleksey Pesoshin and Head of the Federal Service for Accreditation Dmitry Volvach signed an agreement on interaction and cooperation in the development of the halal industry.
