Rustam Minnikhanov: We have to respond to each situation in terms of alcohol poisoning, especially when it concerns child alcoholism

9 November 2015, Monday

On November 9, speaking at a meeting of the Council for controlling the situation in the sphere of alcohol sales in the republic, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said that in nine months of 2015, 973 alcohol poisonings have been reported  and 274 people have died in the same period in Tatarstan.

Opening the meeting, Minnikhanov said a 5-per cent decline in alcohol products sales and a 4-percent decline in the sales of locally produced alcohol have been reported in the republic.

“Serious work is needed to control the situation with alcohol product sales and counter illegal sales of alcohol,” Minnikhanov stated. “It is particularly relevant for smaller towns, municipal regions.” In some regions illegal alcohol sales outlets have been eliminated, he went on to say.

“We cannot but talk about acute alcohol poisonings,” Minnikhanov claimed. “In nine months of 2015, a total of 973 poisonings have been reported, including 44 with children. As many as 274 people have died in the republic in the same period. We need to respond to each situation, looking carefully into what happened, especially in terms of child alcoholism.” Tatarstan Health Ministry needed to investigate the situation and be informed of each alcohol poisoning incident among children, he demanded.

Federal government is also taking serious measures aimed at controlling sales of alcohol products, Tatarstan President added.
