On December 7, at his meeting with Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov in Ashkhabad, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov confirmed high level of strategic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan.
He stated that at his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, it was noted that close cooperation was established between Turkmenistan and leading Russian regions, such as Tatarstan, Astrakhan, Sverdlovsk, and St.Petersburg in different areas.
Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov expressed his gratitude to Vladimir Putin and Chairman of Russian Government Dmitry Medvedev for supporting cooperation with Russian regions and conveyed his greetings and warmest wishes. He confirmed fruitful bilateral cooperation based on long-term historical connections, cultural and spiritual commonality of two friendly nations.
Speaking about trade and economic cooperation, Berdymukhammedov noted that there is a substantial potential for increasing trade turnover, and cooperation in energy and transport sectors is successfully developing.
Rustam Minnikhanov thanked Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov for a cordial welcome and noted that he was glad to visit Ashkhabad again. Moreover, he congratulated Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov and Turkmen people on the 20th anniversary of gaining the status of permanent neutrality.
Minnikhanov continued that Turkmenistan is a long-term partner of Tatarstan, and the two nations have much in common, including language and cultural values and traditions.
During the meeting fuel and energy sector, trade-economic sphere, agriculture and tourism were determined as priority areas of cooperation, with special emphasis on expanding supplies of products from Turkmenistan to Tatarstan, and machinery from Tatarstan to Turkmenistan.
Also, the meeting discussed cooperation in humanitarian and educational spheres, and sport in the context of preparations for Asian games 2017.
Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov thanked Rustam Minnikhanov for organizing the consultations of famous masters of sport from Tatarstan for Turkmen specialists.
