RT State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev met with former Prime minister of Malaysia Dr. Mahathir Mohamad

RT State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev received former Prime minister of Malaysia Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.

Mr Mahathir Mohamad worked as Prime Minister of Malaysia in 1981-2003. In this period of time Malaysia, a country with poorly developed agrarian economy turned into one of modern, highly developed countries of Southeastern Asia.

Mintimer Shaimiev and Mahathir Mohamad shared out memories about their meeting in April 1997 in the course of official visit of the first Tatarstan President to Malaysia.

Mintimer Shaimiev thanked Dr Mohamad for current visit to republic and noted : “It arouses respect that you are still engaged in politics on global level. Currently complicated economic and political processes are happening in the world. People need your advices and support”.

Mahathir Mohamad informed that he is writing articles, books and travelling around the world with lectures. “People now show great interest towards Tatarstan and I wanted to make sure of it”. Dr Mohamad stressed that Mintimer Shaimiev had also been the head of republic and a political leader of country for a long time, his experience in demand in Russia and outside the country.

Director of Department of external relations under RT President - Aide to RT President on international issues Timur Akulov took part in the meeting.
