On March 15, speaking at a briefing at Tatarstan Government House, Deputy Minister of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the republic Nikolai Surzhko said that preparations for the upcoming spring flood have been completed in all regions of Tatarstan.
The readiness of cities and regions is assessed based on compliance with nine factors: operational preparation of regions, state of urban telecommunication systems, bridges, roads, buildings and public facilities, water intakes, burial grounds, warning and communication resources, availability of material and financial reserves.
This year, according to weather forecasts, serious flood fallouts are not expected.
Thus, the maximum water levels on small rivers in Tatarstan are expected to be close to the average maximum or less by 0.2-0.5 meters.
Under the worst-case scenario, the flooding zone might cover 220 settlements which are home to 18,846 people, 48 social facilities, 55 road sections with a total length of 75.3 km, 36 bridges, 27 objects of economy. Any railways, warehouses with pesticides, industrial waste storage, water intakes and animal burial are not to be touched by this flooding.
Surzhko reminded that ice breaking on small rivers is expected eight days earlier than the average time.
“In general, activities to manage flood waters are under control, Tatarstan department of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations is ready to spring flooding,” Deputy Minister concluded.
