On May 24, Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov accompanied by Governor of Kostroma region Sergey Sitnikov, Chairman of Executive Committee of World Congress of Tatars Rinat Zakirov visited new Cathedral mosque in Kostroma.
The mosque is a two-storeyed building with a transparent glass dome and two 30-meter-long minarets. Men's prayer hall is designed for 500 parishioners. There is also a balcony for women, and various auxiliary facilities.
Today, the mosque building is fully completed. In the near future it is planned to hold its solemn opening. Later Muslim community plans to build a complex next to the mosque, which will include Tatar school, madrasah and a museum.
Minnikhanov visited the mosque and got acquainted with its interior decoration.
Tatarstan President thanked the leadership of the region for their assistance in the construction of the mosque. "It is a great trust and responsibility. We must strictly keep up traditions that were laid down by our ancestors, live in peace and harmony with people of all faiths,” he stressed.
Later on Minnikhanov visited Orthodox sacred place of Kostroma - the Ipatiev Monastery of the Holy Trinity. Founded in the beginning of the XIV century, the monastery is one of the oldest in Russia.
During a tour of the territory of the monastery, Minnikhanov was told about its history.
