On July 20, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, who arrived on a two-day visit in Tatarstan to take part in laying the foundation stone of the Cathedral under reconstruction at the place where the Kazan Icon of Mother of God was found, addressed all believers, calling on Orthodox Christians and Muslims to leave in peace and harmony.
“I wanted to visit Tatarstan for a long time, because Kazan and Tatarstan play a very special role in the life and destiny of our homeland. Tatarstan nowadays is one of the most developed Russian regions, both economically and socially,” he said while answering questions from journalists.
According to Patriarch Kirill, Tatarstan is a special place where Orthodox Christians and Muslims live together. Their interaction impacts the entire country, he said.
“I strongly believe that peace and wellbeing in our homeland largely depend on the situation in Tatarstan, interethnic and inter-religious relations here,” he stressed.
